NBA exhibition basketball will return to the Sprint Center on Oct. 13, when former University of Kansas center Joel Embiid’s Philadelphia 76ers meet the Miami Heat.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. contest will go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday at SprintCenter.com, Price Chopper Box Office at Sprint Center and by phone at 888-929-7849.

Embiid, a 7-footer from Cameroon who was selected third in the 2014 NBA Draft after averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds in his lone season at KU, had minor knee surgery in March. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

The injury-plagued Embiid made his long-awaited NBA debut in 2016-17 and averaged 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 31 games.

“It’s really exciting to play a preseason game in Kansas City, which is not far from where I played college basketball for the Jayhawks,” the 23-year-old Embiid said in a release. “I know that area has some great basketball fans and it will be fun to be back playing for the Sixers.”

Philadelphia selected guard Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Embiid was the third overall pick in 2014. Former Kansas State guard Rodney McGruder plays for the Heat. He averaged 6.4 points a game in 78 games a year ago. The Heat selected Bam Adebayo of Kentucky in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft.
